Kinky-Tail roars into the night

Kink-Tail (Mlowathi male lion) on MalaMala Game Reserve

The inimitable Kinky-Tail by Andrew Batchelor

I know I promised you all something riveting for this week’s edition of Video Thursday, but I was thwarted by the camp’s Internet connectivity. So instead I dug out something, or rather someone, close to all our hearts. Even those of us who didn’t know this “king of kings” that well, were saddened by his passing.

The demise of Kinky-Tail – one of the Mlowathi brothers – was definitely a saga for the ages. His brother (who was last seen in July 2010) moved west to rejoin his 3 older brothers after Kinky-Tail was killed by the Manyelethi males.

Happy almost weekend folks, enjoy!

  1. On one of our many visits, we were priviledged to be on a night drive, following a male lion courting a female, forget which male but the roar was something my family & I will never forget. The earth seemed to shake through the vehicle, our adrenalin rose to ecstatic heights! Marvellous and unforgettable.

  2. Hey Jennie. It’s wonderful to hear how so many MalaMala experiences have turned into precious memories! 😉
