During the past several weeks, the MalaMala rangers have longed for the Tamboti female leopard to reveal her cubs. The suckle marks on her underbelly were a sure sign her youngsters were nearby.

This morning held a very pleasant surprise when a fur ball playing in a tree in the distance led to the discovery of the Tamboti female and her two young ones. The two cubs seemed very relaxed and continued on their morning endeavours, untroubled by the sound of the vehicles and human voices.

We estimate the cubs to be about 3-4 months old, and it is extraordinary to see the Tamboti female’s extremely casual nature showing through in their behaviour.
