February 28th. 3 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride and Matshapiri males provided us with much entertainment as they ran in several times on zebra and buffalo before finally bringing down a buffalo cow close to Rattray’s Camp. We also watched a pride and 2 males (Sand River/Toulon) in the south bring down a buffalo cow and calf. The Marthly pride were found with 50% of buffalo kill- remarkably, they were in eastern Flockfield! 2 leopards: the Airstrip male as well as the DOKF 3:3 were viewed. 3 herds of buffalo and many elephant sightings.
February 27th. 2 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride killed yet another buffalo cow- their 4 cubs and the 2 Matshapiri males were present as well. A pride (Sand River) and 2 males (Toulon) were in the south. 5 leopards: the Emsagweni female and the Kikilezi female were seen chasing each other around. The Treehouse male and the Tamboti female were seen separately but both in the same area just north of West Street Bridge. The DOKF 3:3 was also viewed. Cheetah: the 2 brothers were in the north east. A large herd of buffalo as was seen as well as many elephant sightings.
February 26th. 3 lion sightings: the Marthly pride were hunting buffalo at the Causeway. The Eyrefield pride killed a buffalo cow. The 2 Matshapiri males were just north of Rattray’s Camp and not far away at all from the Eyrefield pride- they’ll surely make their way to the kill. 7 leopards: Great news as the Emsagweni female was found with 2 tiny cubs in the Matshapiri River south of Matshapiri Waterhole! The Treehouse male was chased off a kill by a herd of buffalo. The Bicycle Crossing male was on White Cloth road. The son of the Ostrich Koppies female was at Matshapiri Dam and the Kikilezi female was at West Street Bridge. 2 sable antelope sightings: a herd of 9 drank from the Sand River in front of Rattray’s Camp and later in the day a single bull was seen in the same area. 2 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as a couple herds of elephants.
February 25th. 2 lion sightings: 5 members of the Marthly pride were at Sand Pit Crossing. The Eyrefield pride and their 4 cubs were north of Confluence Crossing. 4 leopards: The Treehouse male chased the DOKF 3:3 off her impala kill in Piccadilly Triangle- seems the male is making inroads into the Airstrip male’s territory. The Kikilezi female was just east of the Marthly pride’s position in the Sand River. A herd of buffalo was seen as well as many elephants.
February 24th. 3 lion sightings: 5 members of the Marthly pride are south of the causeway. The Eyrefield pride were north of Confluence Crossing. The pride of 8 lions (Sand River) killed a young buffalo in the south. 2 leopards: the Island female and the Tamboti female had a territorial dispute- both females were scent marking profusely around the old airstrip and their was little love lost between this mother and daughter combination. A herd of buffalo was seen as well as many elephants.
February 23rd. 3 lion sightings: 5 members of the Marthly pride are still feeding off their 2 buffalo kills from yesterday. The 3 members of the Matshapiri pride were in eastern Flockfield- good to see the lioness again! The Eyrefield pride were north of Confluence Crossing. 3 leopards: the son of the Ostrich Koppies female killed a vulture of all things- in the same area were the 3 Styx lionesses had their buffalo kill yesterday. The Tslebe Rocks male was seen in the north. Am unidentified female was viewed in the north east. 2 herd of buffalo were viewed as well as half a dozen elephant herds.
February 22nd. 3 lion sightings: we watched the Marthly pride kill a buffalo cow and calf in front of Main Camp. The Eyrefield pride with all four cubs were along Flockfield Lookout. 3 lionesses were on a buffalo kill at Buffalo Bush Dam- ID to be confirmed. 5 leopards: the Bicycle Crossing male has a buffalo calf kill very close to the Eyrefield pride. The Airstrip male cautiously approached the Marthly pride with their buffalo kills. The newly named Lookout female was with her cub at Styx Waterhole. The Mlowathi female was in the north. Cheetah: the 2 brothers were at Clarendon Dam. 2 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as many elephants. And a serval!
February 21st: the Eyrefield pride and the 2 Matshapiri males were at West Street Bridge. 2 large male lions and a pride (Sand River) were in the south. Leopards: the Lookout female and her cub were at Styx Waterhole. The Island female was at Wildebeest Crossing. A herd of buffalo was seen as well as many elephants.
