July 26th. As bizarre weather conditions pummels the rest of the country we enjoyed a lovely sunny day in the Lowveld. We even had a welcome bit of rain overnight. Lions: the Fourways pride and both Matshapiri males were in eastern Flockield. 8 leopards: the Bicycle Crossing male was still feeding off his warthog kill- 2 unidentified male leopards approached the area and chaos ensued with the Bicycle Crossing male seeing off both intruders. The Emsagweni female and her cub were north of the Hogvaal Donga. The Kikilezi female and both her cubs were viewed close to Main Camp. 2 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as many elephant sightings.
July 25th. Game viewing out of the top drawer today that included pangolin, sable and cape hunting dogs. 3 lion sightings: the Fourways pride and both Matshapiri males were in eastern Flockfield. 2 lionesses from the Marthly pride and their cubs were at Elephant Rock. The Clarendon males were also viewed in Marthly. 6 leopards: the Bicycle Crossing male has a warthog kill at Charleston North. The Treehouse male was hunting impala south of West Street Bridge. The Island female was in the Ngoboswaan Donga. The DOKF 3:3 was at Campbell Koppies. An unidentified male and female were viewed in the Tjellahanga River. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 3 were in Marthly. Sable antelope: 2 different herd were viewed today! A herd of buffalo and many elephant sightings were recorded as well as a pangolin near Clarendon Open Area!
July 24th. A MalaMala 7 day despite the extra cold weather! 3 lion sightings: the 2 Clarendon males were viewed in Marthly and were roaring frequently. 1 Matshapiri male was at West Street Bridge. 2 young Talamati males were seen down south. 5 leopards: the Kikilezi female was viewed close to Main Camp with only one of her cubs. The Island female was north of Main Camp. An unidentified female leopard is on a kill at West Street Bridge. The DOKF 2:2 was involved in a scrap with a hyena. Cheetah: the 2 brothers were viewed in the north. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 3 were hunting in front of Main Camp. A herd of buffalo and a couple elephant herds were also viewed.
July 23rd. Lions: the Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males were at Styx Rocks- the lionesses were viewed hunting on several occasions this evening, taking advantage of the windy conditions. 5 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were found again just west of Main Camp. The Emsagweni female and her cub finished off their duiker kill this morning. 3 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as a couple of elephant herds.
July 22nd. 3 lion sightings: the Fourways pride were found with a sub adult buffalo kill in eastern Flockfield. The Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males were viewed in the Tamboti Thickets area opposite Rattray’s Camp- the darker maned male and the youngest lioness were viewed separately and were mating. 5 leopards: the Kikilezi female killed an impala west of Main Camp and then brought her 2 cubs to the kill. The Emsagweni female and her cub were feeding off a duiker kill in the Matshapiri River. 2 herds of buffalo and many elephant sightings were also recorded.
July 20th. 2 lion sightings. The Eyrefield pride and 1 Matshapiri male were still feeding off their buffalo kill east of Drum Crossing. The Sand River pride were viewed at Charlseton Rock down in the south. 3 leopards: the Kikilezi female was without her cubs west of Main Camp. The Island female was just south of Main Camp. An unidentified leopard was seen along Charleston Drive. Cheetah: the 2 brothers were at Clarendon Open Area. 2 herds of buffalo and many elephant sightings were recorded. A honey badger was also viewed.
